Master of Finance (Saint Mary's)

Based on the concepts and theories of financial engineering, the Master of Finance program is a one of a kind initiative at Saint Mary’s University. The MFIN program effectively prepares graduates for professional careers in financial management, portfolio management and risk management. At the same time, students are provided with a solid foundation for doctoral study.

Program Overview

The objective of this program is to prepare graduates for professional careers in finance as financial analysts (CFA) or portfolio managers. This is achieved through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on use of financial data and proprietary financial management software and sitting the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam. Saint Mary’s is the only institution in Canada with FRI software used by banks, insurance companies and government agencies worldwide to manage their portfolios.

The 14-month program begins with an intensive eight week session of language instruction in English for Academic Purposes and an introduction to Canadian culture for students from non-English speaking universities. This is followed by a semester of foundation courses, two semesters of rigorous finance study and CFA preparation workshops, delivered in modules over a full year.
