Venkateshwaran (Venky) Iyer B. Chemical Engineer University of Mumbai –
Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT)

Mr. Venkateshwaran IYER
Student - Master in Manufacturing Management

Venky graduated from one of India's premier engineering schools in 2004
He has about three and a half years in the Engineering, Procurement and
Construction business and has been associated with the execution of
diverse and prestigious green field projects - spanning refineries,
petrochemical plants and biopharmaceutical facilities. The opportunity to
interact with equipment vendors, technology licensors, plant-operators,
design engineers and research scientists from across the world has
enriched his overall professional experience.

During his tenure at Aker Kvaerner Mumbai (the Indian affiliate of the globalengineering and construction services provider Aker Solutions), he was chosen from 70 trainees to receive the coveted title of “Best Trainee” (2004-05). He also became the youngest engineer in the Mumbai office to be formally appointed as a 'Lead Process Engineer' and successfully completed the first-of-its-kind Biopharmaceutical engineering project for the Mumbai office, leading a team of 4 process engineers.

In 2007, Venky joined BecRel Engineering, a joint-venture company involved
in the engineering, procurement and construction of the Export Refinery
Project for Reliance Petroleum Limited in Jamnagar (western India) –
making it the world’s largest refinery at a single location. In his role
of Manager (process), he coordinated efforts between the design team at
Bechtel (London), plant operations personnel at Reliance (Jamnagar),
refrigeration package vendor (USA) and the engineering team at BecRel
(Mumbai) to deliver a Safe, Flexible, Effective and Efficient design
within the project deadline.

Venky has the honor of being the recipient of a 3M Entrance Scholarship.
He is interested in a career in project, production, operations and supply
chain management. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and is currently
trying his hand at penning a few short stories of his own. He is also an
avid quizzer and has represented his school, college and company (Aker) at
numerous general knowledge / technical quiz competitions. He is very proud
to remember that, when he had close to 1.5 years of work experience, he
was invited by one of the Professors from his alma-mater to deliver a
30-minute lecture on 'Project Management and Execution in the Chemical
Industry’ to the undergraduate students of Chemical Engineering as part of
their Industrial Management course. This was a rare honour for any
alumnus.
