Scholarships – University of Windsor

Entrance Scholarships

International students who have demonstrated excellence in education are automatically considered for entrance scholarships. Scholarships are awarded based on high school academic achievement (and for university transfer students, where applicable, additionally, academic achievement from the transferring university). Note that SAT scores are not used in Canada, and Windsor does not use these for admission decisions or scholarship decisions.

Scholarships are automatically considered for every student who has been admitted to the university. Students who qualify are informed of any award, at the same time as the admission decision is communicated. The University issues a written confirmation of scholarship awards so that students can use this when they are applying for a student visa. Awards of $1,000, $2,000 and $3,000 are available.

Outstanding Scholars Program

If you intend to major in an honours program in Classics, Modern Languages, French, Philosophy, Music, Physics, Earth Sciences (not Environmental Studies), Economics (not Business and Economics), Chemistry (not Biochemistry), Mathematics and Statistics, Industrial, Mechanical (Materials Option) or Environmental Engineering, or the Bachelor of Arts & Science Program, you will also be considered for our Outstanding Scholars Award Program.

Depending on your secondary school accomplishments, the value of the award will range from $4,000 ($1,000 X 4 years) to $10,000 ($2,500 X 4 years). Students in this program will also be mentored in their first year in preparation for guaranteed Outstanding Scholars Appointments in their Department/School valued at $2,000 in earnings for each of second, third, and fourth years, provided all conditions are met. Conditions vary by program.

International Student Entrance Award

All eligible entering first-year international students may be considered for an award of $1,000 that would be provided to them for up to four (4) years of full-time study. Recipients must register as full-time students (i.e. at least 80% of a full course load for the student’s program per semester, taken for credit) in the year immediately following the conferring of the award.

This award will be credited one semester at a time. Because there is insufficient time between semesters to verify eligibility in advance, the second instalment will be credited to the student’s account in the expectation that the qualifying condition is satisfied. If, after course loads have been reviewed and the student has not satisfied requirements, the second instalment will be rescinded and the student will be notified.

Odette School of Business Entrance Award

All eligible entering first-year international students enrolled in the Odette School of Business may be considered for a non-renewable award of $1,000. This award will be credited one semester at a time.

Other Awards

Additional awards can be applied to during the span of the student’s education. Timely information on awards is posted around campus and information about specific awards can be found on the SIS. Admitted students can also log into the student account and check the section for “Search for U of W Scholarships, Awards and Need-based assistance (including the Work Study Program) you may be eligible for.” For some of these awards students have to apply in person while for most other awards students are considered automatically.
